Why EDC-Free Matters
Exposure to endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs) has been linked to:

  • Increased risks of certain cancers (breast, prostate)

  • Hormonal imbalances and long-term health issues

  • Reduced fertility and reproductive concerns

  • Immune system disruption

  • Developmental effects in children

User Guidance
We encourage first-time users to perform a simple patch test for compatibility.

Common EDCs in Perfumes & Fragrances

1. Phthalates (Plasticizers / Solvents)

Used to make scents last longer; linked to hormonal disruption and reproductive issues.

  • Diethyl phthalate (DEP) – most common in perfumes

  • Dibutyl phthalate (DBP)

  • Di-n-octyl phthalate (DnOP)

  • Butyl benzyl phthalate (BBP)

2.  Parabens (Preservatives)

Used to prevent microbial growth; may mimic estrogen.

  • Methylparaben

  • Ethylparaben

  • Propylparaben

  • Butylparaben

 3. Synthetic Musks

Used for fragrance; linked to bioaccumulation and hormone interference.

  • Nitro musks (e.g., Musk xylene, Musk ketone)

  • Polycyclic musks (e.g., Galaxolide, Tonalide)

4. UV Filters / Sunscreen Additives

Some fragrances use these for stability; may affect estrogen/testosterone.

  • Benzophenone-3 (Oxybenzone)

  • Homosalate

5. Formaldehyde-Releasing Agents

Used in some preservatives; can act as EDCs and irritants.

  • DMDM hydantoin

  • Imidazolidinyl urea

  • Diazolidinyl urea

  • Quaternium-15

6. Synthetic Hormone-Like Compounds / Other Fragrance Chemicals

    • Triclosan (antimicrobial additive, sometimes in scented products)
